Archetypes
According to
the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, archetypes are universal psychic
patterns present in every human being. They
 represent distinct
personality traits.
In
simplest form, one woman may embody the persona of the tough girl,
housewife, career woman, or teenager depending on the situation she is
in. Each archetype serves a purpose and has a place in her life. But, it
is when the lines of communication get crossed that archetypes begin to
work
 against
each other playing havoc on our lives. Caroline Myss, an intuitive and
spiritual leader, expanded on the role that Archetypes have in our lives
with her book Sacred Contracts. She also has a program called Archetypes
that goes into more detail. On her website
www.myss.com you can find information about the various Archetypal
traits.
 Every
Archetype also has a light and dark side. For example, the light side of
the Warrior Archetype is someone who remains strong during times of
struggle. The Shadow Warrior seeks to win at all costs. This is evident
when it is more important for that person to be right rather than make
peace. The idea is not to banish those unacceptable aspects of our
Archetypal personalities to the shadows, but to acknowledge their
presence and learn to use them for our highest good.
If you have ever had a reading with me, you may already be familiar
with some of your Archetypes. The Angels speak Archetype quite
frequently as a way to illuminate particular patterns that may be
blocking or inhibiting your progress. They will also revel aspects of
yourself that you may have forgotten about or did not realize you
possessed. Someone going through a relationship transition might learn
how to call upon her Goddess Archetype to stay grounded. Another person
might need to animate their Artist Archetype to move forward with their
life purpose. The Angels also use Archetypal language to describe other
energies that may be affecting your life such as the Player, Vampire, or
Trickster. Becoming familiar with these Archetypes is an invaluable tool
for navigating through life.
 Discovering
your 12 primary Archetypes will empower you in countless ways. You can
use the materials created by Carolyn Myss (books, cards, & cd sets) to
uncover your Archetypes. However, it is common to assign yourself
Archetypes that you do not have, but would like to; or reject one that
you would rather not possess. This is very normal. No one likes to look
at their weaknesses; but that is where the real treasures are buried.
Anything kept secret from your sight has power over you. These are the
instances when you wonder why you reacted a certain way or didn’t react
at all. More than likely, an unconscious Archetype is at work.
An
Archetypal reading will help you to learn more about your Archetypal
personalities and how they are influencing your life. During your
reading we will ask the Angels to illuminate the energies
 assigned
to your spiritual self. Using the Archetype cards created by Caroline
Myss, we will construct a visual display of your primary Archetypes.
Using that information, you can make better informed decisions about
yourself and others. It will give way to a new perspective on being in
the world.
